During my time working as the first engineering officer on a new motor ship in 1987, sailing in the South China Sea, I had a bold and audacious idea. Despite my lack of experience in the field, I was convinced that I could make millions selling jewelry.
My shipmate scoffed at the notion, but that only fueled my determination. I had always felt a deep passion for the sea and the challenges of operating large steam plants on ships. However, the transition to diesel-powered ships had left me feeling unfulfilled and disconnected from my true passions. I made a bold decision to leave my high-paying job and pursue my dream of becoming a successful jewelry entrepreneur.
With no background in jewelry, I ventured to Thailand to begin my new adventure. I rented an apartment, enrolled in a gemology school, and immersed myself in learning everything I could about the industry. The challenges were relentless - the hot weather, the pollution, the language barrier - but I refused to give up. As I continued to work on merchant ships to make ends meet, I began buying silver jewelry in Thailand and selling it to stores in the USA. The business slowly grew, and after four years, I decided to take a leap of faith and start designing my own jewelry.
The learning curve was steep, and the initial results were disappointing. But I persevered, driven by my unwavering passion and determination. I sought guidance from successful jewelry companies in the USA and listened closely to the advice and wisdom of others. With each setback, I learned valuable lessons that ultimately helped me to improve and innovate. It was a journey filled with obstacles, challenges, and experiences, but I never lost sight of my goal.
Today, with over 30 years of hard-earned experience, I have found success in the jewelry industry and now help businesses grow exponentially.
